the graduation of the first Citizens Police Academy in 1998. All graduates of the Citizens Police Academy are automatically enrolled into the Alumni. The Alumni exists for the purpose of fulfilling several missions:
RCPAAA
1. Assist the Randolph Police Department and its officers in its mission of providing the best possible police services available through volunteering, communication and support.
2. Help strengthen the community of Randolph through community service as well as initiating various community programs.
3. Bridge the gaps that exist between the Police Department and the community, as well as separate the myths from the realities of law enforcement through education, communication and observation.
Meetings are held on the third Wednesday of every month. General business is addressed which is usually followed by a guest speaker. Some examples of guest speakers of the past are:
- A Special Agent of the Organized Crime Task Force from the Boston office of the F.B.I. - An Assistant District Attorney from the Norfolk County District Attorneys’ Office - The Presiding First Justice of Quincy District Court - Crime Lab Technician from the Massachusetts State Police Crime Lab
Over the years, the Alumni has taken part in, as well as initiated on their own, several programs which have had a positive impact on the community. Some projects the Alumni has taken part in are:
- Raised money for the purchase of the first Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) to be used in a police cruiser. -Started the Rescue Ringers Program, which collects used cellular phones to be issued to victims of domestic violence who do not have access to a telephone. A portion of the telephones are sold to a private vendor and those funds are used for funding domestic violence education. -Every holiday season, the Alumni “adopts” a family that may need assistance during the the holiday season. -Assisted the Randolph Police with several programs such as Safety Day, Law Day, fingerprinting of children for personal identification kits, assisted in conducting a traffic pattern study as well as many other projects.
The Randolph Citizens Police Academy Alumni is an invaluable tool for your Police Department and your community. The work done by the Alumni helps the Police Department by encouraging a stronger relationship and better communication between the police department and the community we serve, by providing services which aid both the community and the Police Department, as well as giving a feeling of support and appreciation to the officers of the Department. Thanks to the partnership between the Police Department and the Alumni, the goals of both organizations will be reached with greater efficiency and effect for the community as a whole.
